Orange You Glad It's Summer?!

A few months ago, early March, the color orange caught my eye! I wanted it! A book bag, a purse, a dress, a scarf, you name it… I had to have it in orange!

It is nice to see that the orange trend is going hard this summer, and I don’t see it leaving for awhile!

So it’s time to get up with the fashion, and get down with orange!

Style Noon and Night

Hey everyone! I am Alyssa Nix, the summer intern! I was born and raised in Sioux Falls, South Dakota but decided to go to college in Boston, Massachusetts! I will be going into my fourth year at the New England Institute of Art studying Fashion Retail Management! I am excited about blogging for you guys this season and can't wait to show you my take on fashion, style and our favorite store, AMaVo!

To start out this new adventure I thought I would show you some new styles in the store right now and a couple ways you can wear them!

I have a rule to never buy anything you can only wear once! Besides, half the fun of fashion is being creative! Just because I don't design the dresses I wear, doesn't mean I don't design the outfit. So here is my take on style, from brunch with a colleague to clubbing with your friends! No need to take off your favorite piece, just switch it up!

This adorable lace poncho looked great over this "Jungle Boogie" frill dress! Nice and casual to start off your day!

Time to go out for the night? Simply take a layer off, add a funky heel and some cute ankle socks, and you are refreshed and ready!

With a top as funky as this, it doesn’t take much to make a fresh fun outfit! This maxi skirt is so comfortable and free; I didn’t want to take it off! Perfect with flats or heels! Throw on some bangles, rings and even earrings, or rock just the top and skirt. Either way you’ll have a flattering casual look!

I threw on a pair of white jeans with funky high heels and that trusty floppy hat! Bam! Grab your favorite bag with a pop of color and the outfit has done a 180! These wedges are too sexy, ladies!

*This tank also comes in a bright turquoise*

Fringe Bag

This dress and fringe scarf makes for an adorable daytime outfit! These tribal flats are my personal favorite! (I almost didn’t feature them because I want them all for myself!)

To dress up the outfit I had to get creative…

I transformed the fringe scarf into a cute top in three easy steps!
1) Lay the scarf flat across your chest.
2) Cross it in the back.
3)Slide your arms through and straighten out the fringe!

I LOVE my Niki Biki skirt! You can wear it with such variety! Pull it down to your knees or hike it up if you’re feeling frisky! Wear it with a T shirt, leggings and boots for a casual look, or spice it up with a sparkly tank!

For this outfit I wanted it to look like a dress! So I matched it with a Niki Biki black tank!

The fringe made me feel the Old West vibe so I put on our FAVORITE new Corral turquoise boots and a necklace to match!

"Birthday Girl!"

She entered this world on March 21, 1991 at 8:11am…..weighing in at 7lbs. 13oz………Allison Lynn Vos. The doctor said, “You have a perfect baby girl”…..her father said, “She is just gorgeous”!  And thus began the journey of a very special girl…..aka, Alli Cat.

Fitting into a busy family schedule was a piece of cake for her.  She is a survivor! Her birth order has served her well……the baby and last born. According to earth astrology, The Medicine Wheel describes her personality as innovative, energetic, optimistic, clear-sighted, feisty, and adventurous. I would agree!

Isn’t it funny how we measure life by significant passages ….such as baptism, confirmations, first day of school, or the firsts of learning what life offers.  These moments are captured by photos or recordings of the event…such as these:

First fishing trip

Special birthday party because daddy was gone

First days of school

First ski trip with ski instructor

Crabby pants on Halloween

First big kid’s bike!

Obviously there is not enough time or space to capture the past 21 years but as a mother, I can do a quick scan and tell you this.  Allison captured my heart the moment I laid eyes on her and that grip has never lessened. She has a free spirit which I admire.  Her heart is as big as the earth, her motives are genuine, and she is authentic. She is beautiful both inside and out. I am so proud of my daughter for overcoming life’s adversities.  And I love her with all my heart. She is my “Poody.”

Tomorrow will be her golden birthday, she turns 21 on March 21st. We’ve decided to celebrate big this year………….our family is heading to Las Vegas to enjoy her special day. And I guarantee there will be plenty of photos marking this momentous passage!!!!!!

Much love,
Suvo

"Luck of the Irish"

"Follow the ways of your ancestors....."
-Old Irish proverb

Did you know forty million Americans claim Irish ancestry?  But on March 17, that number increases considerably when we all celebrate St. Patrick’s Day!

St. Patrick’s Day was a day the Irish immigrants remembered their strong ties to the “auld sod” with parades and banquets.  It soon became a distinct American custom, with everyone, no matter what his nationality, wearing a bit of green.

An authentic St. Patrick’s Day celebration took place at home with music, dance, food, and refreshments. It was (and still is) a holy day, so people attended mass and the pubs were closed.

Why not start a family tradition and celebrate a bit o’ Irish this year?

It’s always fun to make some cupcakes for any holiday.  Embellish them with festive St. Patrick emblems or just use green food coloring in the batter or frosting.

Send the kids outdoors on a treasure hunt to search for leprechauns and pots of gold!  You can wrap gold foil chocolate coins in some sort of wrapper. Or use these green coins pictured above for the treasure hunt.

Head to your local florist where you can find an array of “St. Patrick” floral choices.  I chose this oxalis plant because of the shamrock shaped leaves…..there are Blarney stones with small greens, white and green carnations, and much more!  A dash of green is sufficient for your celebration!

These St. Patrick “adornments” are appropriate for all ages….and budget friendly.  Beads, neckties, glasses, and hats are fun for everyone to sport!  The shamrocks are ideal for decorating or wear as a corsage.  Refreshments will taste better in the green cup sipped through a shamrock straw!

And don’t forget to treat yourself to a little bit o’ Irish……moms need to enjoy the celebration too!  The hanky panky's and Irish pins can be found in the boutique!

Here is my Irish blessing to you!

 Much love,
Suvo

"Mirror, Mirror on the Wall"

  Mirror, Mirror, on the Wall………..

What can you do to make a room feel bigger, brighter, and more interesting?  Mirrors!
Mirrors add such an element of dazzle and mystery to any room. They are affordable and can create a whole new look to your home.
Better yet, you can find mirrors in almost every décor style.  From vintage, to modern or eclectic, you can find one that will work with your style and budget. Also, they are a practical décor choice because you can check your lipstick and last minute touches before heading out the door!
Their versatility affords the opportunity for multi purposes. For example, you can adorn them for the holidays or include them in a larger grouping.  Depending on the shape and style, I like to use them as a resting place for candles and flowers.  The reflections are fabulous!
Don’t worry about matching shapes and sizes……with a little experimenting, you will find the perfect arrangement.  Or you might just be inspired by some of these ideas pictured below.  Here are a few ways that I have used mirrors in my home!

And by the way, who is the fairest of all????
Much love,
Suvo
